Teenager & gaming beds

A teenager's bedroom has to be a bedroom, a study and a place to see friends. The bed is the biggest piece of furniture in it, so it's worth getting it right.

Single or small double?

A 3ft single (90 × 190 cm) still suits many teenagers, and keeps floor space free. If the room is big enough, a 4ft small double (120 × 190 cm) gives a growing teenager more room and works as a sofa-style seat for friends during the day. A 190 cm long bed fits most people; very tall teens may be more comfortable on a 200 cm long king size (150 × 200 cm) if there's space.

Gaming beds

Gaming beds are designed around a gaming or streaming setup: think built-in desks under high sleepers, shelves for consoles and controllers, and bold styling. Our own Recoil brand is built for exactly this.

Sleep and screens

The HSE says young people need 8 to 10 hours of sleep on average, and recommends stopping screen use at least an hour before bed. A desk lamp on a timer, a phone charger outside the bed area and blackout curtains all help. More in our sleep tips.

Common questions

What size bed should a teenager have?

A single (90 x 190 cm) works for many teenagers. A small double (120 x 190 cm) gives more room if the bedroom is big enough, and very tall teenagers may prefer a 200 cm long bed such as a king size.
