Bed size calculator: what fits your room?

Enter your room's floor size in centimetres. The calculator checks each bed size, allowing for the frame and a walkway, and shows what fits comfortably, what's a squeeze, and what won't fit.

How it works

  • A bed for two needs a walkway on both sides; a bed for one can go against a wall, so it only needs one.
  • It also leaves a walkway at the foot of the bed.
  • The frame allowance adds to the mattress size, because frames are bigger than mattresses. Upholstered beds with big headboards can need more: check the frame size on the product page.
  • It checks the bed both ways round in the room.

Doors, wardrobes and radiators take space too, so measure the clear floor area. Sizes explained: bed sizes in Ireland.

Common questions

How much space do you need around a bed?

A walkway of around 60 cm on each side you get in from, and at the foot, is a comfortable rule of thumb. 50 cm is snug; 70 cm feels roomy.

What size bed fits a 3 m by 3 m room?

Put your measurements into the calculator to check, allowing for the frame. Remember to subtract space taken by wardrobes and other furniture.
