Choosing a sofa bed

  • Measure it open. Check the open length on the product page and allow walking room at the end.
  • Mattress size: is it a single or double-width bed when open?
  • Daily comfort: if it's your main sofa, choose for sitting first.
  • Getting it in: sofa beds are heavy and bulky. Check the packaged size against your doors and stairs: see measuring for delivery.

Guest beds and trundles

A single bed with a pull-out trundle turns one bed into two, which is ideal for children's sleepovers or two guests who don't mind sleeping side by side. See also beds for shared rooms.

Common questions

Is a sofa bed or a day bed better for a small room?

A day bed takes the footprint of a single bed and needs no extra space to open. A sofa bed is usually more comfortable to sit on but needs room in front of it to open out. Check the open dimensions on the product page.

Can you sleep on a sofa bed every night?

Some are designed for regular use and others for occasional guests. Check the product description and mattress details, and consider a day bed or a proper bed if it will be slept on every night.
