What is a bed frame?
A bed frame is the raised structure that supports your mattress, usually a slatted base with sides and, on most models, a headboard. Unlike a divan, a bed frame does not include the mattress, so you pick the two separately and get more say over the style, height and storage.
What is the best material for a bed frame?
It comes down to the look you want and how much upkeep suits you.
- Wooden bed frames are strong and long-lasting, from oak and pine to painted finishes, and suit classic or natural rooms.
- Metal bed frames are lighter and airy, and often the best value.
- Fabric and upholstered beds, including velvet and boucle, add a soft, padded headboard for a cosy, modern feel.
- Leather bed frames give a sleek, wipe-clean finish.
There is no single best material. Wood lasts and suits most rooms, metal keeps the price down, and upholstered frames feel warmer and softer.
